japan stamp

In Japan, people collect many different things according to their interests. Believe it or not, there are stamp collectors. Not the postage stamps, though.. the stamps I refer in this article are rubber stamps.

In many tourist attractions, such as temples, museums, train stations, and airports across Japan, you can find a corner to stamp your book (or paper, whatever stationery you have) with the unique stamp for commemoration. You can specifically collect themed-related stamps, such as towers all over Japan or JR lines around Tokyo, or just stamp your book with any stamps you can find, just for fun. However, the temples usually need special stamp book called goshuin and you need to follow certain rules.

Anyway, I went to Japan last July and I had my hobonichi techo planner in my bag everywhere I go. Everytime I spotted a stamp corner, I happily got my techo stamped. My sis was also happy to stamp her moleskine. When we went out to seperate locations, we showed all stamps we could get that day after we see each other. My dad also noticed our thing and once he gave me a sheet of paper with a stamp from a train station.

I really love the idea of stamping the book / planner / travel diary as souvenir. I think a stamp is also mean as a proof of visit. These days we can just snaps some pics to show that we were in such places. But I think, stamp is also quite authentic and unique. Besides, it's more fun to have beautiful stamp when the place is not so instagrammable.

The above picture is the stamp of Sannomiya Hankyu-line Train Station. Here goes the story behind the stamp. It started when my sis and I needed to go back to our hotel in Kobe from Kyoto. It was already late at night, heavy rain, and we didn't know how bad the weather was. We couldn't get the shinkansen so we took the regular train, got stranded for a while in Osaka train station, followed by late night run to the other side of the station (from JR line to Hankyu line), hurrying to catch the last Hankyu train to Sannomiya station in Kobe. We managed to arrive in Kobe safe and sound. All of those rush and worries were all paid off when we got this stamp.

stamp stamp stamp

Well, this is a latepost. I supposed to post this at the beginning of this year, in January. Pfft.. Sorry for rare posting lately. Pas trop motivée. Désolée. I'm also on a tight budget at the moment. So I don't buy things for months. Yup. So I will post things I already have, which I haven't share here. Let see..

Here are some stamps bought on the Made With Love store at Grand Indonesia, Jakarta.

On the left side, is Lawn Fawn clear stamps. This stamp is useful if you want to make your own calendar. Beside numbers, there are also some icons for weather. It's kinda cute, but very pricey. It costs around 250k rupiah (about 20 USD) here, while it costs USD 15 on the official website.

On the top right, there are three Panda rubber stamps. It costs about 14k each. They're not in their pristine condition though.. but well, they still work.

The set of three stamps are the Studio G clear stamps. I think it was value for money. They cost 65k for assorted of three stamps.

I haven't tested them. From my experience, I'm so lost with clear stamps. I just haven't found the right ink to use with. I mean, the ink which is affordable and good matte finish. I haven't mastered the right technique to chop stamp as well.. you know, the amount of ink, the right pressure, etc.

So hop, they were all went into my plastic container. See yuh.

stationery sorting

I spend my weekend sorting my stationery. I bought some plastic storage containers few weeks ago, so this is how it went. On the left, is a bin for washi tapes, deco rush and embossing tapes (dymo). On the right, is the one for stamps thingy.. rubber stamps, clear polymer stamps, stamp pads, and inks. Not shown here, are bins for daily stationery (pens, pencils, erasers, scissors, colourings, etc.), paper  based (notepads, loose leafs, sticky notes, stickers) and lunch box related (lunch box, sections, portable cutlery, etc.). Gosh.. those are lots of things there. I mean, A LOT !! I think I need to stop for a while. Let say, no spend for August? Let's see...

first stamp

As promised on my (waaay) previous post, here goes the picture of my first stamp.
Yes, I managed to find it in my parents' house.
Sooo.. happy :)

encore panmomo

I always like to order cute stuff from panmomo. I think I have discussed about it many times in this blog. Couple of times, I didn't have a chance (no time, busy busy..) to share about things I bought from them. Anyway, these are things I bought recently.

Two roller stamps, a large mug, a box of sticker (can't get enough of this cute momoi) and two sets of rolled sticky notes (not washi !!).

Am Happy. As always.

clear stamps

When I start this blog, I didn't expect to get carried away with the stationery things.. machin truc et cetera. Well, I was wrong. The more I got involved to update my knowledge about various stationery, the more I got curious and need to fulfill the quest. The result wasn't good. I had to face some stressfull moment when my credit card bills got out of hand. I had to stop buying things from the internet. Especially nowadays, when the currency is not favorable at all for me to buy things in US dollar.

I must admit, I bought too many fancy things last year; mostly from ebay and etsy. I also bought from a couple of small businesses as well. For instance the stamps for planning things.

So far, the most talkabout items are stamps from Studio L2E and Sweet Stamp Shop. I have bought from both of them. I bought the plan series which I think very useful for filofaxing and hoboniching. Let me tell you, they quickly sold out. When the new series of plan by Sweet Stamp Shop and Iconic by Studio L2E were introduced, they only lasted less than 24 hours. Can you believe it? Thankfully, now they have pre-order option. Yes, it takes time to wait for the restock. But at least we got a chance to have them.

Oh, those stamps are clear stamps made of photopolymer. You need a simple acrylic block to use with the stamp. I'll show how to use it later, ok.

stempel

When we talk about stamp, there might be a bit of confusion. In English, stamp can be refer as postage stamp or rubber stamp for craft. So I label "stempel" for rubber stamp (and all stamps related to stationery, journaling and stuff)  in this blog.

I have my first stempel when I was still in elementary school (or junior high?). My dad gave one for me and one for my sis. Each of them has our name. I stamped all my books with it. I better look for it in my room.. I'll show you if I managed to find it. Finger crossed. (update : Yes, I have found it. See it here.)

Last month, my sis offered me a custom stamp for my birthday. I really love it. It has my name, phone number and email on it (I erased it on the picture here). Oh and yes.. that picture of me is on that stamp as well.

Bento&Co.

My main reason to order from Bento&Co was the Kaoiro stamp. Kaoiro is a rolling stamp for face expression we use for texting. For example (-_-") or (>_<) and many possibilities we can make from different combination. Actually, we can also find the stamp on the official gung website.. but Bento&Co offers free shipping for order more than 50 USD. So I take this chance to buy some other stuff ;)

Apart from Kaoiro stamp, I also bought mini washi tapes (in lot of four), deco rush (in set of three), a yellow onigiri box and Totoro utensil set (chopsticks and spoon). All of them finally exceed 50 USD.. so the shipping cost was free.
The shipment was quick. It was just a couple of weeks to arrive safely in my place. Really can't wait to try the stamp. I'll review and share about it later when I have time. \(^_^)/

karaku stamp

About 10 days ago, I ordered two rubber stamps from Etsy. They've landed safely in my place this afternoon, sent by registered post. The name of the shop is Karaku, and the owner, Mayumi, is a very nice fellow. She sent a card and a packet of tissue paper (Hello Kitty) together with the package :)

These stamps would be very useful for the upcoming semester. I can use the timetable stamp to help my students in planning their schedule, as they have made appointment with me for academic counseling next week. Just stamp it on a piece of paper (or card) and fill the column with classes they plan to take. I can also stamp it on my agenda as well.

The other stamp is in a shape of a round clock. This would be useful for keeping track how many hours I have spent for particular work or activity. Since it has no number whatsoever, we could use it for other things. For instance, time management, shares or portions, pie chart, etc.

late post scoop

This is should've been posted couple months ago. Pheeww.. time flies.. Bought these things in Scoop Kota Kasablanka. There are :
  • a box of korean mini stamps for diary / journaling --about 120k.. not cheap, but very good quality and the design is quite alright
  • 3 sticks of round stamps --about 20k each. I have tried them but it's not really good to apply on the agenda or hobonichi
  • 3 different kinds of cash book --only about 15k each

diary stamps

Since I'm hoboniching, I begin to crave for rubber stamps, especially for planner or diary. From my observation, Japanese has clean and sleek diary stamps, while Korean has cute and girly stamps for diary. For Korean stamps, I stumbled upon a shop on Etsy. The owner of the shop is Mieryaw (in Shanghai) and she has tons of cute stamps and washi tapes. These are what I bought.

metro discounted stuff

It was almost the end of the month. I was on super tight budget cos I have no more money left on my account. The trip to the mall that morning was supposed to be very cautious.. and now I thought it might be such a mistake after all. I was stunned when I saw there was a big sale in Metro Dept Store.. oh yeah, in stationery section as well !! I was helpless as I saw different kinds of cute things were all discounted for 50%. There were crafty paper punchers, craft stamps, passport wallets, businesscard holders, all of my favorite thiiiinggggs.. Aaarrhhh.. What could I do? I carefully selected some items. Those I bought were the best or most useful among the others. On the cashier, I had to use my credit card. My mind kept yelling at me not to use it but for urgent things. Oh please, this time I think stationery may be considered as urgent, .. er what..?! I know.. but.. well, humm.. darn I had no excuse. But well, those discounted items won.

On the picture, we can see back there, a greeny-black canvas pencil case. The broken-white lace made it simple yet beautiful look. Next to it, is a tin coin bank with a picture of a cute little girl. Right infront of it, is a simple plastic (some kinda polyurethane) name tag with cute picture. Can be useful for my access card or commuter train card. Lastly, there are two sets of craft stamps. One of them is in Parisian theme (Eiffel tower and such) and the other is in simple happy life theme (bird, flower..)

stempel

A set of craft stamps in the shape of drawer cabinet.. which I found quite awesome.
The pattern of the stamps are Clover, Flower, Ladybird and Apple.
From how it looks, these are perfect to make borders.. such a chain of flowers.
Bought from Gramedia PIM.
